Protecting the skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun can help you avoid incurring skin diseases such as skin dryness, skin swelling, skin redness, and worse, skin cancer. Use of sunblock and sunscreen will be very helpful in protecting your skin against those damaging sun rays. Sunblock comes in different physical forms such as garments, umbrellas, sunglasses and other physical structures that can block the sun from penetrating into your skin.

Chemical sunblock, or more specifically called as sunscreen, can be in the liquid or fluid form. Sunscreen that is available in stores comes in different packages such lotion, gel, cream, or spray. Older version of sunscreen appears to be oily and greasy when applied into the skin. An improvement of sunscreen products enabled the application of an invisible layer of protection on the skin that covers it against UV rays.

There is a standard that dictates the effectiveness of a chemical sunblock. This standard gauge of its effectiveness is called the Sun Protection Factor or SPF. It has been found in laboratory examinations that the higher the SPF value of a screen the more effective it is in protecting the skin. Yet, in certain cases, the higher the SPF value, the higher the risk of allergic reaction to the product. Therefore, you cannot really aim for a huge SPF value unless you are sure that you are not allergy-prone. Using an SPF 30 sunscreen is deemed as the most common type used by most people. For added assurance of its effectiveness, you can just reapply sunscreen every now and then.
